2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500 Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500?
A: Before working on the seal, remove the negative battery cable and accessory drive belt. Insert the retaining lock onto the crankshaft/ring gear. Should the hub of the belt pulley/vibration damper be tight, use a puller to take it out, matching the grooves of the puller with the slots on the belt pulley and look for any wear on the belt pulley's surface. Gently get rid of the belt pulley/vibration damper while making sure you don't damage the crankshaft or the mounting hole for the front crankshaft seal. Remove the crankshaft seal with a proper prying tool by opening the front of the timing cover. Wipe or clean the mating areas with the right solvents, as the seal should not be affected by grease or oil and then place the front crankshaft seal gently over the groove on the timing cover. Place the belt pulley/vibration damper back on the timing belt, unlock the lock that keeps the crankshaft/ring gear in place and hook the accessory drive belt where it needs to go. Attach the minus battery cable and pour the required engine oil into the crankcase up to the proper mark. Make sure to keep safe away from the fan, not stretch your arms near the pulleys or belts while the engine is on and wear clothing that fits properly. Even after the engine has been started, continue to look for leaks.
