2006 Dodge Stratus Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2006 Dodge Stratus?
A: You must begin by cutting off the negative battery cable to work on the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley. Prop the engine up under the pan with a block and jack and then take away the three bolts on the right side that secure the engine bracket. Attach the hoist to the vehicle, detach the front right wheel and its shield and again place the engine on wooden support under the oil pan by means of a screw jack. After that, take out the bolts from both engine mounts at the front and rear and slowly lower the engine onto the jack. After removing the accessory drive belts and damper bolt, fit Special Tool 8454 Puller and Insert 6827-A for removing the damper. To install the crankshaft vibration damper, use a Special Tool 6792-supplied M12 1.75 x 150 mm bolt, washer, thrust bearing and nut, tightening the damper bolt to 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Replace the accessory drive belts, then under the engine's support, raise the engine with the screw jack and install the front and rear engine mount through bolts, tightening them to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Put the belt splash shield and right front wheel back in, lower the car and prop the engine near the oil pan with a wooden block and jack. Slowly go up with the engine until the engine mount bracket is centered on the right side bracket and then insert and tighten the three vertical bolts in the front bracket to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Remove the floor jack, then plug in the negative battery cable again.
