The Harmonic Balancer is an important improver that determines the better outcome of the Dodge Stratus vehicles. This critical part is to compensate the engine and reduce or counter the crankshaft torsional vibrations and distortion in order to enhance a smooth running engine. A Harmonic Balancer consists of a metal hub, a thick inertia ring, and a rubber ring as the major components that oppose the crankshaft's rotating force. Through time, the rubber will degrade whereby the condition of the Harmonic Balancer becomes very important if one is to avoid some serious damages on the engine. This balancer fits most of the Dodge Stratus models manufactured between the two years 1995 and 2005 and is instrumental in performance and safety. The second-generation Dodge Stratus powered by the potent engines would experience improved performance with the help of the balancer to give the sedan accelerated momentum and economy driving. As for the automotive performance markets it is important to denote that performance versions of the Harmonic Balancer are available for modified engines, which is built to meet and even surpass safety standards pertaining to extreme RPM. Thus, the bluff and the adherence to rather high standards make the Harmonic Balancer unique within the automotive industry, so that drivers driving such a vehicle will receive an efficient ride, and their engines will be protected. In sum, the Harmonic Balancer reflects quality and genuine performance that Dodge has been placing in their automobiles.

Dodge Stratus Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on Dodge Stratus?
    A:
Always unhook the negative Battery Cable to begin working on the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley. Lift the engine using a wooden block and floor jack under the oil pan, then unscrew all three bolts that anchor the front bracket to the right side of the engine. With the vehicle on a hoist, take out the right wheel and its gasket cover and once more place the engine's oil pan on wood supports. With the bolts loose, lift the engine until they are entirely out and then drop it the rest of the way down with the screw jack. After that, take out the accessory Drive Belts and remove the bolt securely holding the crankshaft damper in place. To remove the damper, use Special Tool 8454 Puller and Insert 6827-A. Install the crankshaft vibration damper with the Special Tool 6792 M12 1.75 x 150 mm bolt, washer, thrust bearing and nut, then tighten the crankshaft vibration damper bolt to 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). Attach the accessory drive belts, increase the engine with the screw jack enough for you to add the engine mount bolts and tighten these to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Slide the splash shield over the belt and place the right front wheel. Then, gently lower the car. Place a wooden block under the oil pan and a floor jack beneath the engine and slowly raise the engine until the right engine mount bracket matches up. Drive in and secure the three vertical bolts in the front bracket at 45 ft. lbs. After that, remove the floor jack and link the negative battery cable again.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on Dodge Stratus?
    A:
Start by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable when servicing and repairing the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley. Hold up the engine with a block and a floor jack under the pan, then undo the three vertical bolts connecting the bracket's front to the block. Lift the car with a hoist, take off the right front wheel and its belt splash shield and again stabilize the engine beneath it on a wooden block and according to the jack. Taking out the bolt attachments from the engine mounts, carefully lower the engine with the jack. After that, pull off the accessory Drive Belts and the crankshaft damper bolt. Use both Special Tool 8454 Puller and Insert 6827-A to take out the damper. When installing, secure the crankshaft vibration damper with an M12 1.75 x 150 mm bolt, washer, thrust bearing and nut from Special Tool 6792. Fix the crankshaft vibration damper bolt at 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.), followed by putting back the accessory drive belts. With the engine raised, you can insert the front and rear engine mount through bolts, tightening them to 61 Nm or 45 ft. lbs. Reinstall the belt splash shield and right front wheel and lower the vehicle after that. Place a wooden block and floor jack opposite the Oil Pan and slowly lift the engine until the engine mount bracket matches the right side mount. After that, install the three vertical bolts to the front bracket and torque them to a level of 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Take off the floor jack and attach the negative battery cable again.
