2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Drive Shaft on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: When servicing or repairing, first change the propeller shaft slip joint boot if needed and be sure to mark both parts of the shaft so they line up correctly. After putting the vehicle on a hoist in neutral, mark the propeller shaft, pinion flange and transmission/transfer case flanges so you know where to install them. Take the propeller shaft off the inside of the vehicle by removing it from the axle pinion flange and then from the transfer case or transmission flange on the vehicle frame. Check the propeller shaft boot for any damage before installing. If it is not in good condition, change it. Put the propeller shaft into the transfer case or transmission, match the reference marks and fasten it with flange bolts that are tightened to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). After that, install the propeller shaft onto the pinion flange, check the reference marks are matching and fix the flange bolts firmly with a torque measure of 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.). It is very important to follow these directions to prevent the driving line from vibrating.
