2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an Oil Pan on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before you begin service or repair on the oil pan, remove the radiator fan and intake manifold and first disconnect the negative battery cable. At this point in the procedure, do not use Special Tool #8534 to raise the engine. Remove the structural cover first, in order, then remove the engine mount through bolts from both the left and right side (3). Remove the engine mounts by following steps 1-10 and 40c, using Special Tool #8534 to lift the engine. Take out the oil filter and the oil from the engine, but do not press or pry directly on the oil pan or gasket as it is connected to the engine. Take out the oil pan holding bolts and the oil pan, then unbolt the tube going into the pan and remove it plus the oil pan gasket. Use solvent to clean the oil pan and then dry it with a cloth, making sure nothing scratches the gasket surface. Use clean solvent to wash the oil screen and the oil tube. Make sure both the oil drain plug and plug hole have intact threads by inspecting them and if the oil pan mounting flange is bent or twisted, straighten it. To install, first wipe the top of the bedplate and the bottom of the oil pan, examine and replace the integrated oil pan gasket, position the assembly and finally insert the oil pickup tube. If you have to start over, add the stud at position No. 9, then use the 8 mm plus flat washer, install the nut and tighten it to 28 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Set the oil pan in place and secure it with the bolts to a torque of 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs. Place the structural dust cover over the tailshaft, align the engine into the mounts and finish with Special Tool #8534 and afterward, remove it. Loosen enough that you can slide the engines in and replace bolts (3) with nuts tightened to 68 Nm (50 ft. lbs.). Place the intake manifold, fill up the engine with oil, link the negative battery cable back and turn on the engine to check if there are any leaks.
