2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Seat Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Seat Motor for Height Adjustment on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: If you notice a loose locking pawl, the locking pawl inside the seat frame side member, problems with complete height adjustment or a broken or missing shear pin, it's best to replace the height adjust motor assembly and not try any repairs. Be careful when you remove the height adjust motor if it is not working and the power seat is not in the highest position, because the seat adjuster mechanism is being pressed onto by the spring which could cause it rotate under pressure or spring up after you remove the fasteners. Before turning off the battery, push the seat all the way up using the height adjust motor. Start by pulling out the negative battery cable, then get rid of the seat with the broken motor. Following that, pull out the seat cushion and pan, unplug the motor's cable from the connector and remove the fasteners holding the motor to the adjuster. Take out the screw and washer from the shaft on the motor and remove the motor from the sheet metal bracket. Screw the seat adjuster all the way up, position the motor directly underneath the upper assembly of the seat adjuster, make sure the screw and washer are installed and tighten until the screw is snug, not torquing at this time. After installing the motor to the seat adjuster, use a little force to move the motor if needed to get the fastener holes to fit, then tighten the motor screws to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.) and then tighten the screw and washer on the motor shaft to 6.5 N.m (57.5 in. lbs.). First, attach the motor's electrical connection, place the seat cushion, connect the wire harness to the cushion pan and finish by installing the seat again. After that, attach the negative battery cable again and make sure the power seat is working properly.
