2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Washer Reservoir Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Washer Reservoir on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: First, you should remove the negative battery cable to secure the reservoir. Turn the steering wheel to the left as far as it will go, unsnap the filler cap from the hook on the back of the neck and open the cap. Remove the blind rivet attaching the washer reservoir filler neck to the upper radiator support and then jack up the vehicle to get more room below. Disconnect the plastic tabs attaching the left front wheelhouse splash shield to the inner fender panel and front fascia by hand, then pull the shield to get to the washer reservoir. Pull the harness wires off from the washer fluid level switch and from the washer pump/motor, after noting how the tube hoses are fixed in place. Cut off the front and rear washer hoses from the barbed outlet nipples of the washer pump and let the fluid drain into a clean bowl so you can reuse it. Take out the two screws holding the washer reservoir on the left front rail, release the hook tab in the front of the reservoir from the slot in the rail and lift the reservoir down from the vehicle. For installation, drop the washer reservoir into the wheelhouse on the left front fender while below the vehicle, raise it into place and attach the hook to the slot in the frame rail. Screw the two screws on the washer reservoir to the front frame rail until the tightness is measured at 7 N.m (60 in. lbs.). Attach the connectors between the headlamp relay and the washer pump/motor unit and the washer fluid level switch, then slide in the push-in fasteners for the left front wheelhouse splash shield and lower the car. Finally, place a new blind rivet to secure the bracket for the washer reservoir filler neck to the upper radiator crossmember. Put the hook on the wash tank filler neck, attach the reservoir filler cap to the hinge, top up the washer reservoir with the washer fluid and replace the battery negative cable.
