2006 Jeep Wrangler Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Belt Tensioner on a 2.4L Engine on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The first thing to do for servicing or repairing the belt tensioner in a 2.4L engine is disconnect the negative battery cable. Spin the tensioner until its stop is reached, remove the belt and then return it into the freearm position, as usual. While installing, make sure all pulleys are fine and the serpentine accessory drive belt is set up correctly so the water pump does not cause overheating of the engine. Place a new belt around all but the idler pulley, then turn the tensioner arm in full and feed the belt around the idler pulley so the tensioner engages with it. After that, check that the belt wear indicator has less than 24 mm (0.94 inches) between the tang and housing stop.
