How to Service and Repair a Drive Belt on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?

Before you work on the drive belt, remove the negative battery cable. Hold down the belt tensioner as you move it all the way into contact with its stop, remove the belt and rotate it counterclockwise into the free position. While fitting the new belt, leave the idler pulley as it was, since bad circulation around the pulleys can cause the engine to overheat. When you have routed the belt, position the tensioner arm against its stopper, route the belt under the idler and allow the tensioner to distribute itself onto all pulley surfaces. Lastly, look at the belt wear indicator; for 2.4L Engines, the space between the tang and the housing stop should never exceed 24 mm (0.94 inches).
