2006 Jeep Wrangler Differential Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain the Differential Cover on a 216FBI Front Axle on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Service the differential cover by setting the vehicle on a lift, making sure it's in neutral and then opening the drain plug. Remove the indicator switch wires from under the dashboard, remove the connector from the differential cover on the rear and unbolt the cover to remove and drain the lubricant. Cover the housing with a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) bead of Mopar Silicone Rubber Sealant or an equivalent, making sure to let you install it within 3 to 5 minutes or else you'll have to clean and re-apply it to avoid damage. After that, set the cover, attachment tag and indicator switch connector in place and secure both the connector and the cover with 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.) of tightening on each bolt. Fit the indicator switch harness, pour the differential fluid to the appropriate level and put the fill plug in place, tightened using 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs. of torque).
