2006 Jeep Wrangler Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Axle Shaft of the 194RBI on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Service and repair work on the rear axle of the 194RBI should begin with lifting the vehicle on a hoist with the gear in neutral. After removing the brake drum and the differential cover, drain the fluid inside. Turn the differential case so you can reach the pinion mate gear shaft lock screw, then take out both the lock screw and the shaft. Pull the axle C-clip lock by pushing the axle shaft further inside and slide out the axle shaft after that. When you install the bearing and seal, grease the bore and seal lip with gear lubricant, slide the axle shaft into place and thread the shaft into the side gear. Make sure the axle shaft is out, then push the C-clip lock into the side gear. Insert the pinion mate shaft into the differential through the thrust washers and pinion gears. Match the holes on the shaft and case together, position the lock screw on this hole, add some Loctite and tighten the screw to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). Now, put the differential cover back onto the housing.
