2006 Jeep Wrangler Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft on 2006 Jeep Wrangler?
A: Before attending to the rear propeller shaft, place the vehicle on a hoist in neutral. Place a mark all the way down the shaft and at both ends, for help during installation. Lift the bolts holding the U-joint strap at the pinion shaft yoke and then use a pry tool to ease open the dust boot clamp on the propeller shaft yoke. Move the slip yoke off the transmission/transfer case shaft and remove the propeller shaft from the rear. To connect the slip yoke, slide it onto the transmission/transfer case output shaft, align the marks at the yoke with the propeller shaft and install the shaft afterward. Put the U-joint strap bolts into the axle yoke and tighten them to a torque of 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.). After that, secure the dust boot to the propeller shaft yoke with the help of the Clamp Tool C-4975A.
