2007 Chrysler Sebring Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Assemble Piston and Connecting Rod Components on 2007 Chrysler Sebring?
A: Before putting in the piston and connecting rod assemblies, set the piston rings on the piston so that the top compression ring and the second compression ring do not line up with the oil ring rail gap. Make sure the oil ring expander is butted up and the top of the piston shows the rail gaps are correct before starting with the ring compressor. Fully coat the piston with clean oil and both its rings and then gently place the ring compressor onto the piston without moving the rings. The piston's directional arrow needs to be in front of the engine. Spin the crankshaft until the connecting rod journal sits in the center of the cylinder and apply clean engine oil to it. Choose rod bearings that match the measurements marked on the nose of the crankshaft. Axis the connecting rod upper bearing half into the upper part of the connecting rod. Attach the ring compressor after that. Let the piston drop into its bore with the hammer handle and at the same time, insert the connecting rod onto the connecting rod journal. Do not reuse the bolts from the first connecting rod cap; after coating the lower bearing's threads in clean engine oil, install them into the cap and secure the cap. Tighten every bolt just enough for your fingers, go back and tighten every other bolt to the required 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs) and 90° with your hand and skip the wrench again. Using a feeler gauge, measure the side clearance of the connecting rod, then place on the ladder frame, oil pump/balance shaft carrier assembly, oil pan and cylinder head. In last, set up the engine lift chain, attach the transaxle assembly to the engine and place the engine.
