2007 Dodge Caravan Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Install a Shock Absorber Strut Assembly on 2007 Dodge Caravan?
A: Check the side of the vehicle to make sure the coil spring you're using is aimed at the front, as you shouldn't interchange these springs. Put the strut assembly into the strut tower and make sure the three upper mounting studs on the strut tower fit the holes in the shock tower, then secure the studs with the mounting nuts (be sure to use washers), tightening all three to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). It is necessary to hold the serrated assembly attaching bolts still as you install them with nuts. Notice that when you install the bolts between the strut clevis and steering knuckle, you do so with opposite directions for the left and right side bolts. Place the strut assembly onto the steering knuckle so that the arm of the knuckle fits in the clevis bracket and so the holes of both parts are aligned. Place the strut assembly onto the steering knuckle using the two strut bolts and check that the cam bolt, if you have one, should fit into the lower hole of the bracket. First screw the bolts to 60 ft. lbs. and then add just over a quarter extra turn. After that, place the stud for the stabilizer bar link through the bracket on the strut assembly, ensuring it doesn't twist while you add the nut and then tighten it to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.). Attach the hydraulic brake and speed sensor cables to the routing brackets of the strut assembly brackets, then use an 8-mm wrench to tighten the attaching bolts to 13 Nm (10 ft. lbs.). After that, install the wheel/tire combination on the vehicle and fasten all the wheel studs a half turn of the specified torque, then finish tightening them all to the full torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.). When the job is completed, wheel alignment should be done if it is needed.
