2007 Dodge Dakota Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How is a Knock Sensor Installed and Replaced in an Engine on 2007 Dodge Dakota?
A: Either side of the two knock-detecting sensors is bolted to the cylinder block, under the intake manifold and they both use one electrical connector. Both of the sensors must be changed at the same time; the left sensor has a tag and a bigger bolt on its head compared to the right sensor. The Powertrain Control Module needs to identify the right sensors for each position, so be sure not to mix where the sensors are installed. Start with the intake manifold and then take out the knock sensor harness from its socket close to where the engine wiring harness is fixed on the engine's rear. The next step is to take out both sensor mounting bolts, remembering that the blue foam here is only for holding them in place while the sensors are mounted, not for sealing; do not use any adhesive, sealant or locking compound on these bolts. In the end, take off the sensors from the engine.
