2006 Dodge Dakota Knock Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What Are the Installation Steps and Precautions for a Knock Sensor on 2006 Dodge Dakota?
A: Both knock sensors are put into the cylinder block beneath the intake manifold and you can identify the left sensor from its tag and larger bolt head. The Powertrain Control Module requires the sensors to be located correctly and mixing them can cause difficulties. To detach the sensors, separate the dual pigtail harness going to the engine from the knock sensor, then remove the intake manifold. In the next step, get rid of the sensor mounting bolts and notice that the foam strip on the thread is meant for plant assembly, so don't use any kind of adhesive, sealant or thread locking compound on them. Once the sensors are off the engine, wipe clean the holes in the cylinder block and then put the sensors back in place. Be sure to tighten the sensor mounting bolts sufficiently but not too much-over- or under-tightening can influence the knock sensor's work and wrongly impact spark control. Tighten the intake manifold bolts and then hook up the knock sensor wiring harness where the engine and intake manifold connect at the back.
