2007 Dodge Durango Piston Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Piston in an Engine on 2007 Dodge Durango?
A: Before anything else, make sure the negative battery cable is disconnected so you don't get injured by electricity. Then, take out the oil pan and gasket/windage tray and next remove the cylinder head(s). If it's necessary, first clean the ridge on the cylinder bores with a ridge reamer, then take out the pistons while covering their tops. You should remove the connecting rods and pistons through the top of the cylinder block, spinning the crankshaft to align every connecting rod with the bore of the connecting rod and crankshaft. Do not stamp or punch the connecting rods or caps with a number, as it might damage them. Put marks at the positions of the connecting rods and bearing caps using a permanent ink marker or scribe tool; be sure not to graze or pierce the fractured surfaces. Put Special Tool 8507 Connecting Rod Guides into the connected rod's bore and then unbolt the piston from the cylinder bore. Make sure to repeat this process for all pistons. Take care not to nick the crankshaft journals, as it might cause damage to your engine. Remove both the piston and the connecting rod. Then, place the bearing cap on the connecting rod end where the fractured surfaces are, to protect them.
