2007 Dodge Durango Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Camshaft on 2007 Dodge Durango?
A: The first part of repairing the camshaft is applying clean engine oil to the camshaft's journals. Rest the end of the right side camshaft so that the dowel in its sprocket is close to 10 o'clock, making it easier to fit the bearing caps as you install them. Then, insert the camshaft into the cylinder head and put on the bearing caps, making sure they are just tightened by hand. Place the plastic caps over the tubes, checking the order from 1 to 4 and noticing that the arrows stamped onto the caps face the front of the engine. Adjust the middle retaining bolt 1/2 turn and then work your way outward bolting them in, finishing by torquing all the bolts to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.). Put the camshaft drive gear into the timing chain and line up the V6 mark between the two chain links at its ends. Turn the camshaft using Special Tool 8428 Camshaft wrench until the dowel in the camshaft sprocket lines up with the slot in that sprocket and then secure the sprocket onto the camshaft. Ensure the bore hole is clear of excess oil, tighten the sprocket bolt just enough so it won't rotate when you fly the cams and install and tighten the retaining bolt without a tool. Unattach timing chain wedge tool 8379 and with spanner wrench 6958 and adapters 8346, bolt the camshaft sprocket to 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.) of torque. Then, put in the camshaft position sensor and the cylinder head cover.
