2007 Dodge Grand Caravan Timing Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Timing Cover in an Engine on 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before installing the timing cover, clear the mating surfaces of the chain case cover and cylinder block and remove the crankshaft oil seal for correct pump fitting. Set a new gasket on the timing cover and press it to the chain case cover so that the lowest part of the gasket sits 0.5 mm (0.020 in.) below the cover's edge. Align the crankshaft so the drive flats are pointing up, then match the oil pump inner rotor's flats with the drive flats of the crankshaft to avoid serious damage. Set the timing cover in place and screw it tight with the timing chain cover bolts, tightening the M8 bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) and the M10 bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). After that, attach the front crankshaft oil seal, the water pump and the pulley and then set up the crankshaft vibration damper. Place the engine mount bracket and install bolts to the appropriate torque; then set the idler pulley on the bracket and fit the right engine mount, bolting it in place. Attach the camshaft sensor, link the heater return hose at the rear of the timing chain cover or where it is intended on the water pump if you have an engine oil cooler and fit the radiator lower hose. Mount the A/C compressor, accessory drive belt and oil pump pick-up tube with a freshly placed O-ring and set the bolt attaching it to 28 Nm (250 in. lbf.). Install the oil pan, inner splash shield and right front wheel after that, add engine oil to the crankcase up to the proper level, top up the cooling system and join the negative cable to the battery.
