2007 Dodge Grand Caravan Crankshaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Safely Extract the Crankshaft from an Engine on 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Removing the crankshaft starts with removing the engine assembly and then separating the transaxle from it. Attach the engine to an engine stand and after that, separate the oil filter, oil pan and oil pick-up tube. After that, remove the timing chain cover and take off the timing chain and sprockets. Take the crankshaft rear oil seal and retainer out, then rotate the crankshaft to reach the connecting rod cap. Mark the spot for the connecting rod cap die with a suitable scribe tool and then remove the connecting rod bearing cap very carefully to prevent harming the crankshaft bearing surfaces. Follow these steps for all the connecting rod caps. After dropping the main bearing cross bolts and washers from the 3.8L engine, set up new washers and a new bolt when you put the engine back together. Following this, take out all the main bearing cap bolts and the main bearing caps. Once done, lift out the crankshaft from the engine block.
