2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How is the Steering Knuckle Installed on 2007 Dodge Ram 1500?
A: Always clean and dry the ball joint stud tapered parts using mineral spirits before installing the steering knuckle on an LD 4X2 or 4X4 vehicle. With ABS brakes, install the hub/bearing so that the speed sensor is facing the front of the car. First, fit the hub/bearing to the steering knuckle and bolt it on until the tightness reaches 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.). After that, secure the knuckle to both ball joints; then, tighten the upper ball joint nut to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) with an extra 90° turn and the lower ball joint nut to 52 Nm (38 ft. lbs.) with a similar turn. After removing the jack from the lower part of the suspension, connect the tie rod end and tighten the nut so it measures 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). You should install the halfshaft front in the hub/bearing first and tighten it to 251 Nm (185 ft. lbs.) if it is equipped. Set up the ABS wheel speed sensor, brake shield, rotor and caliper and following that, attach the tire and wheel assembly. When the curing is complete, remove the support and lower the car, after which a wheel alignment should be done.
