How to Service and Repair the Steering Knuckle on 2008 Dodge Ram 1500?

The first step in servicing or repairing the steering knuckle on 4500 and 5500 models is to take the tie-rod or drag link off the steering knuckle arm. After that, remove the disc brake caliper bolts plus the caliper itself and then take out the disc brake caliper adapter bolts and the adapter. Take the disc brake rotor and hub extension away, then disconnect the wheel speed sensor. Remove both the hub bearing bolts and the setup including both hubs and bearings. If your vehicle includes the axle shaft nut, remove it by hand. Take off the upper ball stud nut, the upper ball joint and then the lower ball joint nut. Disconnect the lower ball joint from the knuckle using special tool 8677, then remove the whole steering knuckle. If it's needed, take out the dust shield from the knuckle.
