2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Detect Damage and Overheating in a Catalytic Converter's Stainless Steel Body on 2007 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Look for signs of a distorted or swollen area on the stainless steel body to see if the DOC/DPF or Catalytic Converter overheated. Check exhaust smoke trails, inspect the DOC/DPF fittings as well as the wire for the temperature sensor, assess joint incorrect alignment and scan for both dents bigger than 6.3 mm or 0.25 in. and any tears, cracks or damage to the outer body. Check that the finder's core is not damaged or loose. When you remove the DOC/DPF from the vehicle, inspect the inlet and outlet ceramic parts for any damage caused by fuel, oil or coolant residue, check to see if any ceramic is misaligned and check if the ceramic surface in the element is caked with wet soot. If 20 or more cells are burned, visible soot appears on the outlet portion of the filter. Such an element will usually be glossy and give off a strong smell of fuel, coolant or oil.
