2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Catalytic Converter on a 5.7L Engine on 2006 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Before fixing or repairing a 5.7L engine's catalytic converter, make sure the vehicle is raised and steady, lubricate the bolts and nuts with heat valve lubricant and wait 5 minutes so it soaks in. First, take off the wires from the oxygen sensors and remove both pairs of clamps, as well as the nuts and bolts, before you get the catalytic converter assembly out. During installation, connect the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe using the clamp and see that the alignment tang in the catalytic converter goes fully into the notch in the exhaust pipe. Attach two bolts and one nut under the catalytic converter to fasten it to the exhaust manifold, turning them until they reach 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.). Then tighten the four clamp nuts to 52.2 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) torque. Ensure that there is a clearance of at least 25.4 mm (1.0 inch) between your exhaust and the body or frame and make changes when needed. After everything is installed, bring the vehicle down, start the engine and check for leaks in the exhaust. Repair any leaks you find.
