2007 Dodge Sprinter 2500 Rack And Pinion Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rack and Pinion Steering System on 2007 Dodge Sprinter 2500?
A: The first task before servicing or repairing the rack and pinion is to siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir. After that, lift and stabilize the vehicle and then take off the front wheels. Disconnect the stabilizer bar at the upper section of the stabilizer link, then remove the nuts holding the outer tie rods to detach the tie rods from the steering knuckles with special tool C-3894-A. Next, pull out the left outer tie rod end from the rack and pinion and finally remove both spring clamp plates. Take out the bracket bolt attached to the steering hose, then free the high pressure hose and the return hose from the rack and pinion chamber. Then, take out the steering shaft clamping bolt from the rack and pinion and split the universal joint from its connection. Once done, take out the bolts securing the rack and pinion on the front axle and gently slide the rack and pinion to the passenger side, tilting it away from you on the driver's side before pulling it off.
