2007 Jeep Compass Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Damaged or Ineffective Air Bag on 2007 Jeep Compass?
A: First, disconnect the negative cable from the battery to break the circuit, isolate the battery and give the system two minutes to discharge the capacitor before you replace the air bag. If your air bag is deployed, perform the services recommended by the company or your dealer before taking it out. Put the air bag into its nylon pouch in the front seat back trim cover before you attach anything to the frame. Line up the seat air bag with the nylon pouch on the outboard side of the seat back cover and, without pulling, insert both air bag studs into the holes on the pouch. Both the seat air bag and trim cover should face the outboard side of the seat back and be positioned against it and the studs inserted through the holes while it's seated. Used two nuts to fix the seat air bag to the back of the seat frame and tighten them to 10 Nm (89 in. lbs.). After fitting the air bag inflator in the seat, securely attach the other end of the seat wire harness to the seat air bag inflator. Restore all aluminum trim rings onto the front seat back in their proper places to ensure the seat air bag system functions and then restore them to the front and back of the seat back. Only put the front seat back into the car once you are done with all the work; don't attach the negative battery cable until you finish the supplemental restraint system test after handling any part of that system.
