Before you remove the passenger air bag, turn off the SRS by unplugging and separating the negative cable and let it sit idle for about two minutes so the air bag won't trigger by accident. Because air bags can have irritants, you should use rubber gloves, eye protection and wear a long-sleeved top when handling them. Be sure to disconnect the battery's negative cable before waiting for the capacitor to lose its charge. Then, drop down the upper cover in the instrument panel and open the
Glove Box from inside the panel. Do not pull on any of the instrument panel wire harness take outs or pry on the connector insulator, since this could damage the vehicle. By getting between the upper glove box opening reinforcement and instrument panel armature in the instrument panel, reach to the instrument panel wire harness connectors and pull the lock straight out to separate the air bag inflator and the insulator. Take out the two nuts connecting the passenger air bag lower bracket studs to the instrument panel armature. Use a trim stick or equivalent to lift the sides of the air bag door, causing the snaps to separate, before gently pulling away the passenger air bag and air bag door from above the instrument panel as a set.
