2007 Jeep Compass Camshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove a Camshaft on 2007 Jeep Compass?
A: Removing the camshaft starts with opening the engine cover by pulling up and separating the negative battery cable. After that, take off the electrical connectors from the coil and remove the cylinder head cover. Lift the vehicle and take out the right splash shield. Turn the engine to the top dead center and check that the camshaft timing marks are in alignment. Go along the fence with a paint marker, marking the spots that line up with the timing marks. After removing the timing tensioner plug from the front cover, attach a small allen wrench into the timing tensioner plug hole and use it to raise the ratchet, releasing the tensioner as you keep the allen wrench in. Double-check that the camshaft mark lines face one another and use a marker to show where the camshaft mark meets each chain mark. Place Locking Wedge 9701 between the camshaft phasers and drive it into place using a suitable tool. After the front camshaft bearing cap is off, take out the intake and exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts one at a time. Pull the rear of the intake camshaft up and while doing so, steer it out of the front bearing cradle. Remove the timing chain from the sprocket and after that, remove the exhaust camshaft. After that, attach wire to the timing chain to prevent it from going into the timing chain cover.
