2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Battery Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How Are Battery Cables Installed on 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Before installing the battery cables, clean and examine the clamps and posts on the terminals and battery. Fit the battery wire harness assembly (10) into the vehicle and then raise the vehicle on a hoist. Fasten the two battery wire harness retaining clips (7) and (9) to the engine and connect the battery wire harness connector (2) to the connector receptacle on the starter solenoid. Join the battery positive cable's eyelet terminal (3) to the B(+) stud on the starter solenoid and put on nut (4) to fix it in place, tightening it to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs.). During the next step, put bolt (5) into battery negative cable ground eyelet terminal (6) and fasten it to the engine block (10), tightening it up to 11 Nm (95 in. lbs. and lower the vehicle. Attach the battery wire harness retaining clips (2) to the top studs of the valve cover. Back on the generator, click the battery wire harness connector (6) into the generator field terminal connector receptacle, then put the generator output cable eyelet terminal (4) over the generator output terminal stud and secure with nut (5), turning the nut to 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.). For engines with a displacement of 3.7L or 4.7L, attach the battery wire harness connector (8) to the generator field terminal connector receptacle on the generator and then install the generator output cable eyelet terminal (7) onto the generator output terminal stud using nut (6) and tighten it to 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.). Place the retaining clip (9) onto the valve cover stud and join the battery wire harness three pin connector (11) onto the battery tray (12). Attach both battery positive cable eyelet terminals onto the B(+) studs of the PDC and IPM, then tighten the nuts to 11.5 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Shut and secure the doors on the PDC (1) and IPM (2). With the full-torque tool, tighten screw (1) which connects battery negative cable eyelet terminal (2) to inner fender (3) to 28 Nm (20.5 ft. lbs.). Fasten the battery positive cable terminal clamp (4) to the battery positive terminal post, add the cover (3) and tighten the clamp with a pinch-bolt hex nut to 5.5 Nm (50 in. lbs.). To finish, link the battery negative cable terminal clamp (2) to the battery negative terminal post, enough to hold 5.5 Nm (50 in. lbs.) and cover all the metal parts between the cable terminal clamps and battery posts with a little petroleum jelly or chassis grease.
