2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Extract the Crankshaft from an Engine on 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: The engine will have to be taken out of the car to disassemble the engine and remove the crankshaft. First remove the engine and the engine oil pump. Remember not to pry on the oil pan gasket when removing the pan because there are three locations that the oil pan gasket is mounted to the cylinder block and it will stay attached when the oil pan is removed. The next thing to do is to remove the bedplate mounting bolts making note of the two stud bolts for reinstallation. Disconnect connecting rods from the crankshaft; do not damage the critical sealing surface of the bedplate to cylinder block mating surface. The bedplate and the lower main bearing halves are contained in the bedplate, so handle it carefully and do not allow these halves to drop or be damaged, as this can very easily result in severe crankshaft damage. Loosen and remove the bedplate carefully using only the pry points cast into the bedplate. Finally, remove the crankshaft, this is where care must be taken not to damage the bearing surfaces.
