2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Front Cross-Member Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair a Front Cross-Member on 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: Use engine support fixture No. 8534 or a similar type, to hold the engine when servicing or repairing the front cross-member. Remove the skid plates and the rotors from the front, not twisting the boot in the process. After that, use puller tool No. 8677 to remove the outer tie rod end from the knuckle. Take off the nut from the top ball joint and separate the ball joint from the knuckle with helper tool No. 8677. Grasp the axle nut with a wrench, remove it and add a few threads back in. After that, cut the connections to the sensors and free the harness from its support studs. Unscrew the nut on the lower ball joint and then remove the lower ball joint from the knuckle with puller tool No. C-4150A. Open the axle nuts and then take the knuckles off the vehicle and next, unscrew the lower clevis bolts. If your 4WD truck has a disconnect, cut the electrical plug. If your 4WD vehicle has a vent line, disconnect it and remove the right halfshaft. Grasp the propeller shaft as required and move it aside and remove the differential, positioning it so you can raise it with the lift. Remove both bolts on the front differential, the bolt on the right and also the rear bolt, then pull out the assembly keeping the left halfshaft attached. Begin by removing some of the bolts holding the engine mounts in place and then raise the engine over them. Point the steering wheel straight, then pull out the steering gear if you need to. Use a strong lifting device and mark the positions of the cradle onto the vehicle's underbody with the grease pencil. Take away the four bolts on all corners and place the cradle down, then remove the lower control arms and sway bar too.
