2007 Jeep Patriot Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Assemble a Shock Absorber in a Suspension Strut System on 2007 Jeep Patriot?
A: The first thing to do is place the coil spring in the spring compressor, turning it so that the bottom coil ends up in the 9 o'clock direction, only then do you compress it. Adjest the coil on the spring to free up area within for proper reassembly. After that, place the upper spring seat and isolator (4) on the coil spring (5) and top those with the upper mount (2) and bearing (3). Slide the lower spring isolator (7) onto the spring seat of the strut (8) and follow that by moving the dust shield and jounce bumper (6) over the strut rod. Fit the strut into the bottom of the coil spring and through the upper sections until the lower spring seat rests on the spring and the lowermost coil (2) hits the stop (1) in the lower spring isolator. Without using impact tools to avoid harming the bearings inside, install the nut (1) on top of the strut rod after securing the strut in place. Use Strut Nut Wrench (2), Special Tool 9362, on the strut rod nut and Strut Shaft Socket (1), Special Tool 9894, on the end of the strut rod. Tighten the nut to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.) with a torque wrench. As you release the tension in the coil spring, back the compressor (1) drive all the way out and be sure the upper mount and bearing are correctly aligned and not stuck. After that, release the strut assembly from the spring compressor and fit it onto the vehicle.
