2008 Jeep Patriot Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Assemble a Shock Absorber for a Suspension Strut on 2008 Jeep Patriot?
A: Before you begin, check the coil spring is in the spring compressor, then rotate it so the end of the bottom coil points to about nine o'clock. Tighten the coil spring as much as necessary to allow reassembly in the later stages. Afterward, attach the coil spring (5) with the upper spring seat and isolator (4) on top and then insert the bearing (3) and upper mount (2) at the top of the upper spring seat and isolator. Attach the lower isolator (7) to the strut's spring seat (8) and then slip the dust shield and jounce bumper (6) over the strut rod. Drop the strut into the bottom of the coil spring and upper spring parts until the lower spring seat hits the coil spring and the end of the bottom coil touches the stop in the lower spring isolator. Before tightening the nut, place it onto the rod and hold the strut in position. Insert Strut Nut Wrench (2), Special Tool 9362, into the strut rod nut and Strut Shaft Socket (1), Special Tool 9894, into the end of the strut rod, tighten the nut using a torque wrench to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.) Reduce the pressure on the coil spring by backing off the compressor drive completely until everything in the upper mounting area works freely and smoothly. Remove the strut assembly from the spring compressor after you are done and put it on the vehicle.
