2007 Jeep Wrangler Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Change the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on 2007 Jeep Wrangler?
A: While the vehicle is safely supported by stands with its transmission lowered, set a wide shallow drain pan underneath. Safe the bolts holding the front and sides onto the transmission, relax the ones at the rear and remove the front part to let the fluid flow into the pan. With the pan tilted upside down, remove the last few bolts and carefully slide the pan downward, pouring all that's left into the adjacent drain pan. Loose the screw attached to the primary oil filter (1) on the valve body and remove the oil filter from it and the oil pump, before generously pouring the fluid from the filter into the drain pan. If the oil filter seal in the oil pump appears loose or damaged, throw it away, but if it's intact, you can reuse it. With Oil Filter Wrench 8321, you can detach the cooler return filter (2) and then dispose of both the old transmission fluid and the associated filters the right way. Look at both the pan and the magnet for extra metal on the clutch; a little clutch material is no problem unless it causes the car to slip or delays shifting. Use a suitable cleaner on the pan and magnet, then take off the old sealing material with a gasket scraper from both areas. While installing, put the main oil filter seal close to the oil pump's body and don't install it on the filter neck. If it's necessary, install a new seal over the oil pump inlet bore using an appropriate device. Set the replacement filter over the valve body and into the oil pump and attach the screw on the primary oil filter (1) to the valve body, making sure tightening happens at 4.5 Nm (40 in. lbs.). When installation is necessary, place a new cooler return filter (2) on the transmission, then securely tighten it with 9.5 Nm (84 in. lbs.). Put a bead of Mopar(R) Rtv sealant on the surface of the case sealing on the transmission, fit the pan into place, repair the pan to the transmission by installing bolts and tighten them to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). When you're done, lift the car and add Mopar(R) Atf +4 to the transmission.
