2008 Chrysler 300 Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: What Repairs and Inspections Are Necessary After an Air Bag Deployment on 2008 Chrysler 300?
A: After an car accident that used the air bags, one must replace the Driver air bag, Clock Spring Assembly, Steering Wheel and Complete Steering Column Assembly w/Lower Steering Column Coupler. When the Passenger air bag is replaced, the Passenger air bag and Instrument Panel Top Pad Assembly must be replaced as well. Should the Curtain air bag be deployed, the Curtain air bag Assembly and Headliner must be changed and the trim on the A, B and C-Pillars commonly requires replacement as well. All other parts in the air bag and vehicle system should be examined for visible harm and replaced when needed. If either the OCS components like the OCM and Seat Weight Sensor are damaged, they have to be checked and changed, since OCS should be re-zeroed to restore its proper function. After a frontal crash with air bag deployment, the Front Seat Belt and Retractor (for the driver and passenger) with its integral Tensioner needs to be changed and all seat belts should be looked over for any damage. Following an air bag deployment, you should remove the interior powder by vacuuming with safety gear. Don't forget to clean the outlets of your heater and air conditioner. Since front air bags with two initiators often have live pyrotechnic material, they shouldn't be thrown out until they are certain to be completely deployed. Iconic Medical requires that damaged or unprepared SRS components are disposed of following local rules. Remove all the SRS components you installed from the vehicle and clean off any remaining powder by vacuuming.
