Q: How to Remove and Replace a Rear Brake Caliper on 2008 Dodge Challenger?
A: The very first step should be to isolate the battery negative cable from the battery so it cannot power the system while you work. Depress the brake pedal enough to pass its first inch with a brake pedal holding device and keep it in that position to separate the master cylinder from the hydraulic system, preventing the brake fluid from leaving the reservoir as you detach the lines. Using tools, lift and hold the car, undo the wheel mounting nuts and take out the tire and wheel. After that, take out the banjo bolt holding the brake hose to the caliper, then discard the two washers that come off and make sure you install new ones during setup. Don't use a cutting tool, only a trim stick or similar soft one, to protect the rotor, caliper, pistons and dust boots during this step. Insert the trim stick between the brake pad and the outside of the rotor. Make sure to squeeze the brake pad so that both pistons on that caliper are seated all the way to the bottom. Carry out this process on the other side of the brake assembly whenever needed. Elevate the spring by using a transmission jack, lifting it just enough to allow the lower brake caliper bolt to be reached above the spring. Unbolt the lower and upper mounting bolts from the caliper and then take both the brake caliper and pads out of the knuckle and brake rotor. If you have to remove the brake pads from the caliper, follow the correct service instructions. Remember that you cannot fix these calipers, so do not open them.
