2008 Dodge Challenger Brake Pad Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace Brake Pads on an SRT8 on 2008 Dodge Challenger?
A: The first thing to do is jack up the SRT8 and put it on stands. Take out the wheel mounting nuts and after that, remove the tire and wheel from the vehicle. Apply blows to the outboard side of the caliper with your hammer and pin punch to remove the pin that holds the lower brake pad support. After that, take out the brake pad spring clip that is underneath the upper support pin you saw in the caliper. Don't forget to remove the upper support pin for the brake pads following the same steps as you would for the lower pin. If your hand strength is weak, use only a soft tool to push the pistons into the calipers, to prevent harming the braking parts of the rotor or pads. Should you have your brake pad rubbing, wedge a trim stick behind the pads to separate them from the rotor. Push hard on the wheel until both caliper pistons go into their housings, then do not remove the trim stick. Do this again for the outboard brake pad and pistons. Release the inboard brake pad by going in through the caliper. Then, take out the outboard brake pad. Once you've taken off the brake pads, look at all four caliper pistons and the brake dust boots for signs of brake fluid leaking, while also inspecting the brake pad support for anything that may suggest more wear or damage. When a caliper is not approved by inspection, it should immediately be swapped.
