2008 Dodge Charger Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Load-Leveling Shock Absorber on 2008 Dodge Charger?
A: Install the shock absorber by placing the lower part into the hole of the spring link and pulling the top of the shock forward to match the upper holes. After that, install the first lower shock mounting bolt and nut, but don't tighten them yet. The spacers on top of the AWD car's crossmember mount bushings should be set up as directed by the installation guide. Raise the jack slowly until you can guide the coil spring and upper end of the shock absorber up to their mounting positions and tighten the upper mounting screws to 52 Nm (38 ft. lbs.). Observe that the rear mounting bolts, due to their size, should not be used at the front. Next, install the crossmember bolts and tighten them only a little. Ensure that at least 12 mm exists between the tension link and the nearest body weld flange in front. You want to ensure the distance is more than 12 mm, then shift the entire rear side crossmember snug towards the rear of the car. Keeping the front mounting bolt snug, loosen the other three. Once you have it right, tighten the loose bolts and check that the other side is still at least 12 mm from the grease cup. Tighten each of the crossmember mounting bolts to 180 Nm (133 ft. lbs.) and then remove the jack positioned under the rear axle differential. If you lowered the exhaust before, move it back to where it was installed and join the rubber isolators to each hanger that holds the muffler and resonators. If the fuel filler tube has been removed, reattach it now. Install the tires and wheels in the following step and make sure to tighten the wheel mounting nuts to 150 (110 ft. lbs.) or 190 Nm (140 ft. lbs.) for law enforcement vehicles. Place the car on a lift or alignment rack and as you lower the car, raise the lift enough so the bolt on the lower side comes into view. Then, fasten the shock absorber's lower mounting bolt nut to a tightness of 72 Nm (53 ft. lbs.).
