  A: To eliminate the trunk or liftgate shock support, open and support the deck lid with a prop or block at first. Do not pull on the ball socket end retaining clip too hard or it may cause the support cylinder to separate from the ball stud, possibly causing the deck lid to fail heavily and drop without notice. Insert a flat tool into the notch of the outer ball socket end and push the retaining clip outward as you pull the ball socket away from the ball stud on the hinge. When the first clip is in place, release it and use the tool to flip over to attach the other end of the support cylinder. Remove the last support cylinder after removing the hinge pin from the mounting area on the deck lid.
