2008 Dodge Dakota Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Install a Drive Belt on 3.7L/4.7L Engines on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: Begin the install process on 3.7L/4.7L engines by looking over all the pulleys. Properly routing the serpentine accessory drive belt is important to keep the engine from becoming too hot, as the water pump needs to rotate the right way. Put the new belt around the pulleys except for pulley 5, the idler pulley. Spin the tensioner arm until it stops at the correct spot, put the belt around idler 5 and allow the arm to move into the belt. Make sure the belt sits correctly on all the pulleys. Following installation, examine the belt wear indicator; the gap for 4.7L engines should not be greater than 24 mm (0.94 inches) between the tang and housing stop. Should the gap be higher than what's allowed, replace the serpentine accessory drive belt instead.
