2008 Dodge Dakota Water Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Water Pump on 3.7L/4.7L Engines on 2008 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before replacing the water pump on a 3.7L/4.7L engine, first take off the negative battery terminal and drain down the whole cooling system. You should almost always take out the fan/viscous fan drive assembly from the water pump, but only if you are changing the water pump and not removing the fan blade assembly from the thermal viscous fan drive. After that, loosen the two fan shroud-to-radiator screws and remove the fan shroud plus the fan/viscous fan drive out of your car, always making sure the thermal viscous fan drive is stored vertically to prevent silicone fluid from polluting the lubricator. Later, loosen and remove the accessory drive belt from the water pump pulley, release the upper radiator hose from its clamp and lastly remove all eight water pump mounting bolts and the additional stud bolt. You must be careful not to remove the water pump from the timing chain case/cover because this could cause damage that might result in leaks. Afterwards, pull out the water pump and throw away its gasket.
