2008 Dodge Durango Catalytic Converter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Remove and Replace a Catalytic Converter on a 3.7L/4.7L Engine on 2008 Dodge Durango?
A: The first thing you should do is disconnect the oxygen sensor wires so you don't harm the harness or the sensor itself while changing or replacing the catalytic converter on a 3.7L/4.7L motor. Band clamps can't be used again after they are removed and need to be changed for each new procedure. Before putting the catalytic converter assembly inside the exhaust pipe, straighten out any burrs and seat the alignment tang completely into the appropriate slot. Install the catalytic converter assembly (3) to the end of the exhaust manifold. At this point, put the flange nuts (5) and bolts (4) in place and only finger tighten them. If any other parts of the exhaust system came loose during removal, tighten them using the manufacturer's steps. At the place where the catalytic converter meets the extension pipe, put a new clamp and nuts on and leave them loose. Always ensure that the catalytic converter assembly (3) is in its correct spot, that it's in alignment with other motor functions and that there's a minimum of 25mm (1 inch) clearance between the components. Tighten all the exhaust manifold flange bolts to 33 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) and the clamp nuts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) torque only after adjustments are done. Once the car is lowered, engine is running and everything looks fine, you should search for signs of exhaust leak. Repair any seen leaks as required.
