2008 Dodge Grand Caravan Air Bag Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Safely Remove and Replace a Passenger Air Bag on 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before you handle the passenger air bag, disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable and wait two minutes as the SRS capacitor empties. Use rubber gloves, eye protection and a sleeved shirt to make sure any deposits on the air bag unit do not irritate you. To start, take out the upper glove box that is part of the instrument panel. Then, remove the three screws holding the forward edge of the passenger air bag door to the instrument panel; don't drop them into the defroster duct. Loosen the two screws that hold the inboard side in place, then the screws mounted near the rear. Now, remove the three screws on the passenger air bag bracket that are connecting it to the instrument panel support. Gently slide the red Connector Position Assurance lock on the instrument panel wire harness connector toward the edge, push down the latch tab and pull away from the air bag inflator pigtail wire connector. Pull the retainer off the connector on the air bag pigtail harness from the instrument panel support structure. Press upward on the trim stick or flat-bladed tool along the outboard edge of the driver air bag door to release the snap clip from the panel base in the instrument panel. Store the passenger air bag door and the air bag attached to each other on the instrument panel.
