2008 Dodge Ram 3500 Crankshaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How is a Crankshaft Installed in an Engine on 2008 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Install the main bearings in the block and caps after selecting them, always making sure they are well lubricated. Put the crankshaft into the block and place the thrust washers into it. Before fitting the main bearing caps and bolting them down, oil and clean each cap bolt and tighten them by hand at 27 Nm to start, then again by 90°. Fit each crossbolt with a new washer/gasket and after securing the first one, A, tighten it to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). Check the crankshaft for end play. Attach the connecting rods onto the crankshaft and squeeze the rod bearing caps into place. Fit the timing drive, oil pump, timing chain case cover, rear main seal and retainer, windage tray/oil pan gasket, oil pick-up tube and oil pan. When you have finished both the dry-run and reverse running, add the vibration damper and the engine.
