2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500 Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Change an Oil Filter Safely and Effectively on 2008 Dodge Sprinter 2500?
A: Stick to the schedule in the Vehicle Maintenance section about when to change your engine oil. Because engine oil may be rough on your skin, avoid touching it for long periods of time. Oil may become contaminated in the engine from combustion; wash your skin with soap and water if it touches used engine oil, but do not use gasoline, diesel fuel, thinner or solvents, since these may harm your health. Throw used engine oil in the proper containers and ask your dealer or local government where special collection centers are to deposit it. Raise the engine's temperature to its usual level, before positioning the car level and shutting it off. Open the hood and locate the oil fill cap; then remove it. After placing the vehicle on a hoist, bring a drain pan below the vehicle's crankcase drain. Get rid of the oil pan drain plug from the crankcase so the oil flows out, then inspect the drain plug threads for damage or stretchmarks; change the drain plug and gasket if you see any damage. After removing the housing cap, you should then take out the oil filter. After putting in the drain plug and tightening it to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.), replace the oil filter and remove the filter housing cap. Lower the vehicle and pour the specified and correct amount of engine oil into the crankcase. Turn on the engine after filling and looking under the car for any leaks and when done, switch it off to check the oil. Don't forget that each engine comes with a reliable disposable type full-flow oil filter; please replace it with a special Mopar(R) filter or a like brand. Proper steps should be taken when getting rid of used engine oil that has drained from your engine.
