  A: Rubber gasket replacement is necessary every time you service the fuel pump module. You should first make sure to clean and dry the locknut and its threads at the cap of the tank well. Then, put the new gasket into place in the fuel tank opening and next use the float rod assembly and the fuel pump module to partially insert into the fuel tank. Twist the rod into the fitting on the fuel level sensor and spin the clip to keep the rod in place. After installing the float assembly on the fuel level sensor, place the fuel pump module directly into the fuel line opening. Put the locknut on top of the fuel pump module and finger tighten it so that the fuel line fittings are all on the right of the car. If needed, twist the arrow to the right before locking it, so the module's float doesn't touch the tank wall. Then, tighten the locknut following the set torque requirements with Special Tool #6856 and put in the gas tank.
