2008 Dodge Viper Windshield Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Windshield on 2008 Dodge Viper?
A: The replacement windshield should not be used until the urethane around it has had about 24 hours to cure. Mold the urethane shown on the windshield fence to match the new windshield and use appropriate support spacers to fix the new windshield properly on the bottom supports. Open the replacement windshield and set it so it's even against the spacers. Put a mark on each side at the spacers with the grease pencil or tape and then take it out. Place a piece of wood with padding on each side, each being 10 cm by 10 cm by 50 cm and 75 cm from each other, with the windshield positioned upside down on the work surface. With Mopar(R) Glass Cleaner, effectively clean the inside of your windshield, dry with a lint-free cloth and then apply a 25 mm line of clear glass primer to the perimeter. After that, put black out primer on the top and sides 15 mm wide and along the bottom of the windshield 25 mm wide, leaving at least three minutes for it to dry. Use a razor knife to take away as much of the original urethane as possible without touching the paint on the windshield fence, then place a bead of urethane on the middle area along the windshield fence. Place the spacers exactly where they should be on the fence and with a friend, lower the windshield over the opening so the marks at the bottom match the spacers. Take your time while lowering the windshield into the gap, make sure to correctly place the top molding if it needs to be and push the windshield inside so the top molding is even with the roof line. Remove any excess urethane from the outside and put down Mopar(R) Super Kleen or a similar product to clean it. Then, place 50 mm masking tape sections that are 250 mms apart onto the part, this helps hold it while the urethane dries. You should also attach the hood cover, the wipers and rear view mirror at this point and when the urethane sets, pull off the masking tape and try cleaning the windshield with water.
