2009 Dodge Viper Windshield Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Ensure Proper Installation and Sealing of a Replacement Windshield on 2009 Dodge Viper?
A: Let the urethane cure for at least 24 hours before you can drive the car again. Make sure the bonding material is even and shaped like the new windshield and after cleaning, install the support spacers on lower supports at the bottom of the opening. First, set the replacement windshield in the opening, place it against the support spacers, mark it with a grease pencil or masking tape at the spacers and then remove it. Organize the windshield on a flat space so the inside frame faces upward, with two 10 cm by 10 cm by 50 cm blocks of wood pads, each 75 cm apart. Apply Mopar(R) Glass Cleaner inside the windshield using a lint-free cloth, then add clear glass primer 25 mm wide around the windshield's edge and finish by wiping down with another clean and dry cloth. Then, use black out primer to outline the top, sides and bottom of the windshield, making sure it's 15 mm wide on the top and 25 mm wide on the bottom. Leave the primer to dry for at least three minutes. Eliminate most of the old urethane with a razor knife, without disturbing the paint on the windshield fence, then glue some new urethane along the center line of the fence. Set the spacers in the places shown on the windshield opening fence and then, with some assistance, carry the windshield up to the opening and align the reference marks with the spacers at the bottom of the glass. Place the windshield over the window frame and gently lead the top molding to get an even fit on the roof line. Clean the urethane that spilled onto the exterior with Mopar(R) Super Kleen or a similar product and then place 50 mm pieces of 50 mm masking tape 250 mm from each other around the molding to hold it in place until it hardens. The last step is to set the cowl cover, wipers and rear mirror and when the urethane has cured, eliminate the tape strips and check for water squeezing through with a spray test.
