2008 Jeep Commander Axle Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Axle Shaft on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Services and repairs on the axle shaft start by putting the car in neutral and placing it on a hoist. Remove the caliper and wheel rotor first and then take away the two speed sensors that are on the end of the axle tube flange. After that, remove the nuts from the axle flange using a wrench. Pull the axle shaft and backing plate out of the axle tube until the axle bearing becomes visible, then remove the O-ring from that bearing. Shift the axle shaft from the tube and backing plate, then use a hammer and brass drift to tap it through the bearing and axle flange using the plug hole.
