2008 Jeep Commander Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How Can Brake Pads Be Properly Burnished for Optimal Performance on 2008 Jeep Commander?
A: Braking may not be as effective right after you put on new brake pads. Brake linings should be burnished against the brake rotor discs by starting the vehicle and accelerating to 40 mph (65 km/h), before gently applying the brakes to reduce the vehicle's speed from 40 mph to 0 mph within about 6 seconds. After that, drive at 40 mph for about one minute so the brakes can cool. You should perform this step a number of times, from 15 to 20, to properly seat the brake lining material.
